	February 1-3, 2002 / New York, NY. MYSTERY WRITERS OF AMERICA Gwen Hunter is a member of several professional writers organizations, to which she volunteers her time and experience. This year, Gwen was elected to president of the southeast region of Mystery Writers of America, (mysterywriters.org for more information about the national organization) and she takes office on February 1, 2002. The southeast region is composed of seven states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The mission statement voted on and approved by SEMWA members is – The purpose of the Southeast Chapter of MWA is to further the writing, publishing, and marketing, goals of our chapter’s members by organizing, sponsoring, and promoting activities to that end. Toward that end, Gwen will travel to New York City on the weekend of February 1, for the orientation of the national board members. She says, "There are so many opportunities for new writers become better writers, experienced writers to become published, and published writers to market their work. It is the goal of my two year administration to help mystery writers in all of these endeavors. I want to see seminars in every state, a new SEMWA website (now online at www.semwa.com) geared to Southern mystery writers, online chats, and a growth of our numbers. I want to see SEMWA meeting the needs of mystery writers!"

	June 16 - 22 / St. Simons Island, GA. Southeastern Writer's Conference Gwen will be teaching an advanced fiction class at this the 27th annual workshop on St. Simons Island presented by Southeastern Writers Conference. A non-profit organization run by a volunteer board with the mission of supporting writing careers and providing on-going education for writers. This years work shop begins with registration Sunday June16th and ends with an awards banquet on Friday June June 21. Daily classes are presented from 8am to 4pm as well as a three day workshop for kids who write (these are free to children of attendees and a small charge for other kids). We will have evening programs, a panel of professionals in the field, open mike night for readings, an autograph party Thursday, and staged readings at the historic Ritz theater for the winners of best one act play contest.
