WRITE TO GWEN
December 31, 2002
Dear Gwen,
Thank you for sharing your literary brilliance through PRESCRIBED DANGER.
I just finished it. Miss Essie was, in my opinion, your best character.
She gave backbone to the story and conversed with a southern flair which
could only have been learned by her from her prior generations. One gets
the distinct impression that the author didn't research that character.
She knew her. Nice work.
I look forward to experiencing the earlier, and progressing, trials and
tribulations of Dr. Lynch. I also appreciate your commentary on the brief
presentations we offer at our Rock Hill "workshop". I have
implemented several of your suggestions and value your guidance.
Hope your holidays have been happy.
Charlie - Rock Hill, SC.
Charlie,
Thank you for the kind words.
Miss Essie is a dear friend -- yes I know that is weird, but she's real to
me! She's sort of a composite of several older African American women I
have known in my life.
Strong, faithful, opinionated, kind. I'm glad you liked her too! ...
Happy Writing,
Gwen

Hi Mrs. Hunter,
Just read PRESCRIBED DANGER. Wonderful.
I'm an MD in Germany and went through it in two days.
Thanx for this book. Now I´m of to buy the next one.
Dr. Gerhard Schulze - Bad Kreuznach, Germany
Dear Dr. Schulz,
.... I am honored that you liked PRESCRIBED DANGER. It really means a lot
to me when medical professionals appreciate my work. Rhea Rhea is treat to
write about. ...

I am a nurse and love your books. I let all my
friends read them. You are the best kept secret in South Carolina. I found
out about you through the librarian at our local library. I can not wait
until your next book. Thanks for such interesting and good reading. Keep
up the good work. I hope you will not be a secret long if I have anything
to do with getting your name out as a wonderful writer.
Karen - Kershaw, SC.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Dear Karen,
....I hope I'm not kept as a secret much longer either!
It is because of fans like that you that Rhea-Rhea will one day be a
bestseller.
Thank you for sharing about my favorite doctor and about me! And thank
your librarian for telling you about my books! I'll have to stop in and
see her sometime. ....
Your bookplates are on the way.

Love the books,
I have just finished reading PRESCRIBED DANGER. I really enjoyed reading
both of the Dr. Rhea novels. I worked in medicine as a radiological
technologist so I really enjoy medical suspense novels.
Wish you could write as fast as I read. As I am disabled now I spend a
great deal of time reading and it is my escape into the world.
Keep up the good work.
P.J. - Wellfleet, NE.
Hi P.J.
.... I am sorry you are disabled -- but delighted that my stories give you
some pleasure. I work hard to make sure that all medical people find only
good medical background in my work.
Thank you for your interest in my books!

Dear Gwen Hunter,
Thank you very much for writing your "Rhea-Rhea" series. I work
at a bookstore and recommend them to any customers I can.....
I would be absolutely thrilled if you would post my
letter but there is one catch: you have to promise to continue the Rhea
Lynch series! I have the next installment pre-ordered so I get a copy as
soon as it comes out! ...
I also wanted to tell you that I really liked that you maintained all the
characters from DELAYED DIAGNOSIS in PRESCRIBED DANGER. It is my biggest
pet peeve when authors let some of the smaller, yet more colorful
characters disappear from one book to the next. It's an interesting twist
you put in about Cam, but I'm rooting for Mark myself. Of course, I still
hope we can meet the ex-fiancé, you never know, my opinion could
change...
Waiting for the next book,
Clare - Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada
Hi Clare!
....I am more than honored that you tell your customers about me and about
Rhea-Rhea. That is the only way a writer gets her story out -- for fans
and booksellers to share the excitement! As you know, the third book in
the series will be out in February - DEADLY REMEDY. I hope it holds up to
your expectations! .... As to Mark -- I have
to admit Rhea hasn't told me who she will pick! Mark has a couple
serious design flaws, Cam may be taken, John IS taken, and perhaps -- just
perhaps -- there could be a new man in her life? Hmmmm....
Gwen

I really enjoyed your book. The suspense kept me
up all night reading.
I have to congratulate you on giving her [Rhea] a best friend that isn't
perfect but is struggling to overcome her brain damage. I myself wish to
write a book or books in which the heroine is deaf but manages fine in the
real world as well as the deaf world.
My daughter, age 25, is deaf and
would be my role model for this brave woman. I took her to a play that was
signed and used headsets for deaf people when she was small and I remember
she turned to me and said "Mommy ! Is that what night sounds
like?"
We take so much for granted in our lives but you gently remind
us life is not perfect or fair.
Thank you
Louise
Dear Louise,
I am so glad you liked my Rhea-Rhea. She is a very active, gutsy
character, not perfect by any means, but great friend to Marisa.
I understand your feelings about wanting to write a book with a deaf
protagonist.
Protagonists who have problems they have to deal with in everyday life are
the most exciting because the challenges are greater and add to the
conflict.
I think it is great that you would use your daughter as a role model.
She must be very brave -- and is very lucky to have a mother who believes
in her so much!
Thank you for writing!

Hi!
I just found your books thru Amazon's "Medical Thrillers" and
loved DELAYED DIAGNOSIS. Am reading the latest now and enjoying it, but am
so appalled at one thing you said on page 68 that I had to stop and write.
Cats do not, repeat DO NOT have "oily feet"!!!! Where in the
world did you get this idea? I am 72 and have lived with cats since I was
5; sorry but you are very much mistaken.
Don't take my word for it; check with your vet. It comes thru that you are
a dog person, not a cat person (liked the bit about Belle and her pups).
Anyone who walks thru motor oil or a greasy garage floor....you, me, my
cats, your dogs....will have "oily feet".
Other than this, which you will correct in the next printing I hope. I am
really enjoying the latest, and do love Dr. Rhea.
Look forward to the next book!
Best wishes,
Eileen - Washington, DC.
Hi Eileen!
....I'm so glad you are enjoying my books!
I have had cats off and on for years -- but Rhea is NOT a cat person!
When I write, I am "inside" Rhea's mind -- and she is against
cats. Until she meets Stoney.
Stoney the cat is a special friend of Rhea's. He teaches Rhea all about
cats and she learns to love the feline species because of this special
relationship.
I would like your help though, as a cat lover. Don't cats leave scent by
way of paws? I know dogs do -- even lose body heat through their paws
which leaves an oily residue with each step. How are cats different? I'd
like to point that out later in the series. ....
Thanks for writing!
Gwen Hunter
Hi Gwen,
A nice surprise to hear from you. I have never written to an author before
and didn't know if you would reply.
Had to do a little research to answer your questions. Cats have sweat
glands on their pads. Their sebaceous (oily) glands are in the follicles
of their coat; they also have glands around the mouth to mark their
territory. When they rub around your ankles, they're marking you!! ....
Will Stoney be a domestic shorthair? They are lovely cats...I have had 3
in my lifetime; but in my experience Siamese and Abyssinians are
definitely the smartest. My Siamese was neurotic but brilliant; the Aby
was a cat genius;....
Again, it was lovely to hear from you and I am looking forward to the next
Dr. Rhea!!!! Sincerely,
Eileen
Eileen,
... As far as Rhea is concerned -- and therefore the readers' knowledge
through her viewpoint -- Stoney will be a cat. Plain and simple!
....

Gwen,
My name is Erica, age 20, I am from Bloomington, IN.
My sister just introduced me to your books to which I am grateful. :)
I have finished DELAYED DIAGNOSIS, which I could not put down. It has been
a long time since I have read a book so good that I took it with me to
work to read on my lunch break. (I work at Starbucks) :)
I was thrilled to hear that there was a second one, and am currently in
the process of enjoying that one as well.
Thank you for your work.
I would love to receive a book plate of either book.
Thanks again.
A new fan,
Erica - Bloomington, IN.
Hi Erica,
I am delighted you like my stubborn lady-doc!
Odd that you read Rhea in a Starbucks! She LOVES coffee -- guess you
noticed that! She would order a really good robusto espresso in a
Starbucks. Me? I would go for a vanilla cappuccino -- but then I'm a wimp!
Let me know what you think of PRESCRIBED DANGER.
Your bookplates are on the way.
Thanks for writing and give my thanks to your sister also!

I LOVE YOU !
Dear Ms. Hunter,
I am so excited to add to my library of medical thrillers Dr. Rhea Lynch.
I am a devoted fan of Patricia Cornwell, Robin Cook, Leonard Goldberg and
Peter Clement and have become as devoted to you as well! Your knack
for writing engaging characters, realistic plots and snappy dialogue have
made you and your work a favorite of mine. I am more than proud to
recommend your work to all of my friends. We all agree that thanks are due
to you for writing stylish and exciting medical thrillers that treat
readers to appropriate medical protocol without dumbing down the mechanics
for the readers. You lend an air of excitement and authenticity not found
with many authors.
Thank you so much for creating a character as wonderful, empathetic,
intelligent and as stubborn as Rhea-Rhea. She's a fantastic addition to
the canon of medical fiction. I can't wait to see what she does next, and
how Mark, Shirley, Arlanda and Marisa play in.
Again, sincerest thanks.
Respectfully,
Chip - Glenn Dale, MD.
Hi Chip,
.... I have to say -- I LOVE YOU TOO! You flatter me with praise! You add
me to your library! And most especially -- you recommend me to other
readers! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! (she gushed!)
I think your characterization of Rhea as stubborn was right on target! It
is the one characteristic she and I share! And I'm with you -- I can't
wait to see what she does next either!
My secretary told me about the nice review
on amazon.com that you wrote. Thank you for such a delightful review.
I admit that I seldom read reviews -- too scared to see a negative
comment! But this one was put in my hand!......
Thank you for writing and your interest in my books.

Dear Ms Hunter
I just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed your books. As an
ICU nurse I have particularly enjoyed how accurately you write of the
hospital setting and medical events. I am hopeful that there
will be more books to come in this series.
Yours truly,
Susan
Hi Susan,
.....The credit for the accuracy of the medical scenes should not go to me
but to all the nurses in the specialist areas of the small hospital where
I work. They are always gracious and patient with me when I pick their
brains to try to get a scene right!
....If all goes as planned, there will be six books in the Rhea Lynch, MD
series.
Thank you for writing.
Gwen
October 17, 2002
Hi Gwen,
I have read all of your Rhea Lynch series. Would love a bookplate.
I am an ER Nurse Practitioner and I read these medical thrillers
nonstop....you would think that Id get enough of it at work! Series
like yours just don't come fast enough for me.
Thanks!
Caryl - Pekin, IL.
Hi Caryl,
....I am always thrilled to hear from medical people who liked my
Rhea-Rhea.... I guess I could write two books a year on her, but
MIRA will only publish one a year!
A bookplate is on the way to you.... Hope you like book three in the Rhea
series, DEADLY REMEDY, as well as the first two.....

Hi Gwen,
I am a new fan of yours, all the way from Borneo Island. I am not sure if
I am the first person from the land of hornbill to read of your books or
not, but I sure haven't seen your books sold in the bookshop here. I had
to order it from Amazon.com. I ordered 2 of yours only 1 came. I haven't
yet received the other one. I hope I can have it someday. Its been 2
months.
If there is anything you need from the Borneo Island, please don't
hesitate to email. Be glad to help.
Thanks so much.
Laura - Student Services Officer, INTI College Sarawak,
Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia
Hi Laura,
....So -- what is a hornbill? And yes, you are the first person from the
island of Borneo to write me! I am thrilled you went to the trouble of
ordering online since I wasn't in your local bookstore! It is people like
you who make writing worthwhile.
Borneo is a part of the world I've always wanted to visit. It sounds so
wild and uncomplicated, but with a totally modern edge. I see you are in
the northern part of Borneo.....
A bookplate is on the way to you -- mailed today. Hope you like the other
books in the Rhea series.
Best,
Gwen
PS -- If I ever need anything about Borneo, you'll be the first person
I'll write!
October 26
Hi Ms. Gwen,
To know more about The Borneo Island, you can check it out on www.sarawak.com.my
This site is mainly written by Tourists who have been to this island of
heaven. It is like Shangri La with all the modern facilities within reach
.....if you so want to. However, you still can be cut off from the world
if you like. There are places that haven't got electricity, water or
toilet.
One would thought Borneo is a really really remote place. The people from
West Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur - where the Prime Minister live and other
world conference held) thought we still live on trees and in caves. They
still thought we live in jungle and by the rivers. I say.......how RUDE!!!
However we learnt from years of being teased by the West Malaysian, we had
resort to sarcasm. We told them that : yes, we still live in trees. We use
escalators and lift to go up and down the trees. To go between trees, we
use overhead bridges. To go to another trees which is far far away....we
use treelicopters. How's that? ha ha ha.....For trees that is still even
further away, we use e-tree!!! ha ha ha...We watch treelivision and eat
treelivision dinner. Sit on tree trunk chairs and tables. ha ha
ha....Sleep in hammock...
So if you have sometimes, have a look at the site above. I am sure you
will be amused at the stories written in there. I sure am. There are some
pictures attached to this email.
I love to read. One would think why a Chinese read English books more than
Mandarin books. To make the story short, I was in New Zealand,
Christchurch for 10 years (since I was 16). Well you can't really find
Mandarin books to read there. So I started to learn to read English books
( before I went to NZ, I hate reading English books). Then I discovered
the local library and I haven't stop reading English books ever since.
Then I came back to Kuching. The situation is reversed. It is hard to find
English books here. There are plenty of romance and novel. But I only like
thrillers, medical thrillers.
So I had to order through web. How sad. I wish I can travel to either
Singapore or US for just 1 week and to buy all the books I want. WOW! That
will be the day! 2 suitcase full of books to last me for 2 years.
wow.....I really wish there are more up to date thrillers books come to
Kuching la.
Anyhow....till next time. Take care
Laura - Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia
PS: hornbill is a rare kind of bird with really big woody beak and colorful
feathers, that eat small fruits and bugs and makes the most beautiful
sound.

You have new books!?!? Yippee!!!
I discovered FALSE TRUTHS several years ago and adored it!! New Orleans is
on my "To-do list" and your book has made it even stronger. I
was excited when I realized that it was part of a series! However I've had
a devil of a time trying to hunt down LAW OF THE WILD and BETRAYAL. I
won't give up until I own them! Any information you could give me I will
be grateful for.
I plan on buying your Rhea-Rhea books on my next shopping spree. I'm a
book-a-holic so I have several...ha-ha!
I know you haven’t been gone but WELCOME BACK!!
Thanks,
Amber - Rex, GA.
Hi Amber,
....I am so glad that you liked FALSE TRUTHS and are looking for back
titles as well as new ones. New Orleans is fantastic - you must DO-it! I
spent a lot of time there and southern LA. while writing FALSE TRUTHS.....

Hi Gwen,
I am writing to seek your assistance. I come from the land down under and
not privileged to meet you in person.
I agree with some of the comments I have read and like your books, DELAYED
DIAGNOSIS & PRESCRIBED DANGER - the later better than the former.
Obviously recommend to colleagues but have a problem.
When are the others coming out? I have only seen the two mentioned and
know from my searching that more exist. So in order to remain a fan could
you give details of publishing so that I may, along with other fans here
in oz, obtain the softcover editions.
Thanks Gwen - I feel like I am talking to myself - this is what attracted
me to your book in the first place - each to their own.
I trust you are able to help me and look forward to your response.
Take care & thanks again.
Regards,
Gwen - Stafford City, Queensland, Australia
Hi Gwen,
WHAT FUN! I have met a few Gwens in the past, but we are few and far
between! And you are the FIRST from down under!....
I am glad you liked Rhea and are looking for other books.... That is
the best compliment I could ever have. DEADLY REMEDY is the third book in
the Rhea Lynch, MD. Series and will be released in the US February 2003
(probably a few months later in Australia).
As for my earlier books, you can usually find a few used copies on amazon.com,
half.com, or bn.com. There are links to these sites on the ORDER
page.
Thank you for your interest in my books,
Gwen Hunter
September 18, 2002
Thanks Ms. Hunter.
Have just read PRESCRIBED DANGER, enjoyed it totally. I will
be getting the other books you have written. I have been reading Tamar
Myers's books also.
I am 62 and retired, live in WI. Read about 10 books a week, mostly
mysteries or fiction mysteries.
Born in Philadelphia. lived in WI. last 47 yrs. BUT, my Mom was raised in
Rock Hill, SC....
Joined the York County Historical Society and have spent a few days researching
at the Rock Hill library.... Just added the above info so you know why I
enjoy reading books by authors from or about the area. I found a second
cousin who lives in Charleston and I visited her in 2000, so got a chance
to see the "Battery" and drink sweet tea and eat black-eyed peas
and some grits. (Don't care for greens though).
.... I worked in an emergency room in a hospital in the 1970's, a clerk to
be sure, but one who was very interested in everything. Transferred to a
Dr's clinic, where I handled the emergency switchboard on second shift
needing to track down doctors on call.
Could have written a book about that experience, only I am a reader and
not a writer.
Again, thanks for writing such interesting books and I will be looking
forward to more.
Sincerely,
Diane - West Allis, WI.
Dear Diane:
.... I am glad you like Rhea and our little part of the country! I
was born in Louisiana but have lived here for decades and love it!
Wonderful place!
I am so sad you don't like greens! Why, there's nothing so grand in the
world as a pot full of collards seeping in their own liquor, a pone of
cracklin cornbread, and that big bowl of beans nearby! Great meal! Of
course one has to add several dashes of hot pepper vinegar
on top, but greens are one of my favorite foods!....
Thanks for writing!
Gwen
Editor's Note: If you have a copy of Tamar Myer's ESTATE
OF MIND, take a look at the dedication page!

I have just finished reading PRESCRIBED DANGER,
it was great just like DELAYED DIAGNOSIS. My daughter found DELAYED
DIAGNOSIS for me and I really enjoyed reading it and searched everywhere
for PRESCRIBED DANGER and then I found it! It nearly jumped off the shelf
and said 'here I am Denise"
You have whetted my appetite! What happens to Rhea Rhea, and what does
Marissa have? Have you already penned a follow up book? I see on your
web-site that there is a book called ASHES TO ASHES, do you know if this
is available in Australia yet?
I would love to receive the free bookplate if still available.
I look forward to reading further books, please let me know the names of
any other books you may have written. I'm sure I will love them as much as
I have loved reading these 2 books.
Regards,
Denise - Penrith, NSW, Australia
Hi Denise,
.... I love it when my books jump off the shelves into buyer's hands!.....
I can't tell you about Marisa's offspring. You'll find out in DEADLY
REMEDY, book three of the series. Sorry!
I am working on book four now and Rhea keeps doing things that are so
bizarre! .....
ASHES TO ASHES actually preceded DELAYED DIAGNOSIS and was in the stores
in Australia a few years ago. It is currently out of print and hard to
find. Hopefully my new publisher will re-issue it soon.
For a complete listing of all my books go to the BODY
OF WORK page on my website...
Your bookplate is on the way....
Thank you for your interest in my books,

Ms. Hunter,
I have never enjoyed so much exciting reading until I read your book, I
received both of your books DELAYED DIAGNOSIS and PRESCRIBED DANGER when
you made an appearance at Savannah Mall in Savannah, Ga. I confess I am
more a V. C. Andrews, Dean Koontz, Robin Cook fan but you have been added
to my list of exciting writers. I truly enjoy the way you explain medical
procedures and the way the main character is a female (yeah ladies).
I cannot wait until your next book is out I WILL BE THE FIRST ONE IN LINE
TO RECEIVE.
Thank you for taking the time to write a wonderful book.
Deidre Perry-Sgt - Ga. National Guard
PS. This made excellent reading while I was in the field.
Dear Diedre!
....It was great to read your letter. I am SO glad you like my Rhea-Rhea,
and that she was a good read in the field! ..... I admit that sometimes
she does things that surprise me!
Please keep in touch!

Dear Ms. Hunter
I don't know if the bookplates are for people outside America, but if they
are I would certainly appreciate one.
Lauretta - Queensland, Australia
Hi Lauretta,
I will certainly send you a bookplate. They are for everyone, world wide!
Thank you for asking.....

September 8, 2002
Dear Ms. Hunter,
I just wanted to write and tell you how much I enjoyed your book,
PRESCRIBED DANGER. This was the first book I've read by you.
Being disabled with SLE, I am an avid reader and on average, read one book
per day. Because I live on disability income, my book budget is
extremely tight and it is especially gratifying to feel that the money was
well spent. I can certainly say that about your book and I'm hoping
to purchase the previous novel, DELAYED DIAGNOSIS, as soon as I can!
Again, thank you for giving me the pleasure of enjoying your talented
writing abilities and making the expenditure well worth it!
Sincerely,
Fran - Mesa, AZ.
Hi Fran,
Great to hear from you! ....
Life as a disabled person must be very frustrating. I am happy that
Rhea can help.
Much love and prayers your way!
Gwen
September 4, 2002
Gwen,
After reading this excellent work [FALSE TRUTHS] I will never think of New
Orleans in the same way again or the haunted and beautiful bayous southern
Louisiana either.
Thank you for your eye-opening view and spellbinding writing.
Jay
Hi Jay,
....Thank you for writing about FALSE TRUTHS. It was a fun book to
write because I was born in LA., and I have enjoyed the responses from
readers! ....
Gwen

Dear Ms. Hunter,
Hi! ....My name is Kirstin. I am 14 years old... I just love
your books! My best friend, Brooke, goes to your church, and she is
the one that got me interested in your books. She let me borrow both
of her signed copies... and I just love them! I want to tell you
that that it is so fascinating for me to read your books, I almost feel
like I am living them too. Every time I read them I find myself
giving Rhea-Rhea advice, even though I know that she can't hear me.
I just wanted to tell you that you have an extraordinary talent, and your
are using it very well. Oh yes, and if there is no cost at all, I
would very much like to have one of your signed personal bookplates for
PRESCRIBED DANGER; That is one
of my favorite books.
Keep up the good work.
I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.....
love,
Kirstin - Fort Mill, SC.
Hi Kirstin,
....I am so glad you enjoyed DELAYED DIAGNOSIS and PRESCRIBED DANGER and
Rhea-Rhea! She has become my favorite character because she is so
vulnerable and loving and yet so strong and distant from things that pain
her.
There is no cost at all for the bookplate, and it will go out in today's
mail.
Thank you for your very nice letter!.....
Gwen
PS- I will have to thank Brooke for introducing you to Rhea-Rhea!

RE: BETRAYAL...the other books
Undoubtedly you've heard from thousands of readers who found themselves deeply disturbed by "BETRAYAL"....but wanting
more. I
recently found a website that indicated there were two more books
about this family, but for some reason I can't find the site now.
Could you please let me know the names of the other two books, and
whether you have any idea where I might find them? I read a
LOT....and BETRAYAL is one of very few books that have left such a
lasting impression. You have an amazing talent.
I've loaned my copy to several people (probably not something I should admit to the author trying to make a living from sales) and
without fail, everyone's reaction has been the same, almost a
disbelief that a book could effect them so profoundly.
Thank you for providing hours of enjoyment....I'm sure there will be more to come!
Barb - Kamloops,
B.C., Canada
Hi Barb!
....BETRAYAL was a very disturbing
book to write, but also very freeing, a cathartic experience for me.
I have worked in a hospital for many years and seen so many children
who were abused. I always wanted to do something to the bad guys and
finally did -- if only on paper!
The two books following BETRAYAL in the DeLande series are:
FALSE TRUTHS and
LAW OF THE WILD -- published only in the UK.
You can read a synopsis and the first chapters of these books on my
website.
Click on BODY OF WORK at the top of the
homepage and then select the book.
Both books are currently out of print but you may find copies in used
bookstores or used book sites online. amazon.com
usually
has some. I may have a few copies here if you can't find them
elsewhere.
By the way, I don't mind people loaning my books. I do it myself!
Thank you for writing!
Gwen Hunter
PS - If you would like to have a personally signed bookplate for your
copy of BETRAYAL just let me know. I will gladly send you
one, free of course. ....So very few books have made
such a lasting impression on me, and I'm going to try everything I can
think of to get a hold of FALSE TRUTHS and LAW OF THE
WILD! I
worked for many years with adult women who were survivors of
abuse...could be one of the reasons BETRAYAL
had such a profound
effect...I share your feelings about the bad guys!
I'd love to have a signed bookplate. I live in Canada, though...do
you send them out of the U.S.?
Thanks again. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your taking
the time to acknowledge your "fans" when you must be so
incredibly busy. Believe it or not, you are the first person whose
work has moved me enough to write a letter (and as I said...I read a
LOT!)...and to be honest I didn't think I'd actually hear back from you.
Life is full of pleasant surprises, isn't it?
Barb
August 18, 2002
Hi Gwen,
I met you in Savannah when I purchased both of your books in this series.
DELAYED DIAGNOSIS was very good. I was caught up in in immediately and
remained intrigued until I finished it - which was a few weeks ago.
My husband is reading it now and he is impressed. He reads a lot of Clive
Cussler, Louis L'amour, John Grisham, David Baldacci, and then all those
other spy and intrigue authors - we both do! Your book was as engaging as
the other reads we choose.
The book kept me thinking ahead and you lead the reader in several
reasonable but intriguing directions; however, I never considered......
! And I consider myself a pretty good reader - since I'm a Reading
Specialist/Language arts background educator. Your medical knowledge and
research were impressive and well explained for the reader.....
I like Rhea's friends that I've been introduced to. I really like the fact
that I learn something new from your books. You include current events and
concerns in our country; I like the realism. Is your first profession in
the medical field?....I'll look for the next book. In addition to the next
mystery, I'm also looking forward to the progress of the love interest
side-line.
Have a great "Writing" day.
Shawn - Savannah, GA.
Hi Shawn,
....I remember you from Savannah. It is so nice to hear from you.
I am delighted that you and your husband enjoyed DELAYED DIAGNOSIS and I
hope that you enjoy PRESCRIBED DANGER as well!
I am flattered that you place me in such lofty company!....
Yes, I have 26 years experience in the medical field......
As far as Rhea's love interest goes, she surprises even me!
Thanks for writing!

Hi Gwen,
Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much I'm enjoying your
book DELAYED DIAGNOSIS.
It is a wonderful read and I'm dying to get to the end!!! I still haven't
figured out if the husband is involved, it just seems too obvious!
Anyway, I'm writing to also let you know that I would love a signed book
plate because as soon as I was about half way thru with this book, I ran
out and bought the other, PRESCRIBED DANGER. I can't find
the other one yet, but I'm not giving up!! (ASHES TO ASHES).
I hope you have a wonderful
weekend and I'm going to try and find the rest of your books, you are
truly wonderful. I'm recommending you to all my friends!
Susan - Ridgefield, NJ.
PS: Thanks for driving me nuts trying to figure out who dunnit!!! :)
Hi Susan,
That's the first time I'm been thanked for driving someone nuts!....

August 13 2002
This past March... I met you at a Mall while
vacationing at Myrtle Beach, SC. You were, of course, at a bookstore and I
bought your book, DELAYED DIAGNOSIS, basically because you were so
delightful! (blush)... and because I admire and appreciate authors.
Reading is a big part of my life, and the lives of my children. You signed
your book for me and that was lovely and I put it away when I got home,
but, took it out to read just before we left August 2 for Myrtle Beach
again. I had left for a trip to Ireland a couple of weeks after meeting
you and while I was there, I read a book by Nuala O'Faolain, the excellent
Irish author. It was the second book of hers that I had read and a
lot of it took place in Dublin and that was exciting because I was staying
there! I read YOUR book while in South Carolina! And we know that
locale...!
So, about your book. I found it slow reading at first. Too many boring
medical terms maybe, although I understand it was necessary. Too many
references to Rhea's BMW and her good looks, intelligence, etc. Starting
one paragraph in chapter 4 with "gravestone shadows" and ending
the next paragraph with the same phrase, well...I thought, oh no!
The book, and your writing got better and better as it progressed, and, to
my surprise, I found myself reading it by the pool and in my room.
Finished it in a couple of days!
I am not being critical because I know so much about writing! ...laughing
at myself here...but writing you to let you know you hooked me. I want to
take Rhea-Rhea to dinner!! While I thought I had everything figured
out early, .... WAS a surprise. To sum things up, it was a delight to meet
you, read your book, and I will be looking forward to reading the next one
released in April.
Best of luck,
Gary
Hi Gary,
....Thanks for writing, great letter! I do appreciate your comments,
and that you cared enough to take the time to write them. I'm so glad
Rhea-Rhea grew on you! :) She does seem to have that effect on a lot of
people world-wide.
The medical terms can get a bit tedious, my editor has to hold me back.
The double "gravestone shadows" references was an attempt to be
poetic...oh well.
Let me know what you think of PRESCRIBED DANGER and DEADLY REMEDY (Feb.
2003).
I'll be back in Myrtle Beach in October for several days around the 18th.
There should be some details on my website soon. Come by if you're in
town.
Thanks again for writing!

Hi Gwen,
I had been interested in Medical fiction and thrillers since I was young
when the first book by Frank Slaughter came into my hands. Recently
thanks to Amazon.com I was searching for new authors and your name
came up with DELAYED DIAGNOSIS which I very much enjoyed. After that came
PRESCRIBED DANGER which I have just finished. Prosit. I have
enjoyed Rhea-Rhea and I must say that I am getting jealous of her boy
friend, as I don't think he fits well in her life. I think she wants
somebody who is more energetic and ambitious.
I also think that Rhea-Rhea needs to be pampered more and enjoy
some relaxed feeling after her long hours at the hospital. She needs
some love.
Gwen it's great to give us such great books. Rhea is a dear love,
and a committed loving doctor above all.
I will definitely try some of your previous ones like ASHES TO ASHES.
Regards
Saviour Gauci - Malta
Dear Saviour,
Thank you so much for your kind letter! I so glad you like Rhea-Rhea!....
And I agree with your comment about Rhea's boyfriend! Mark holds back
too much from Rhea, he's too aware of other things in his life, too unready
to grab her and be romantic. Rhea is not sure how to be romantic,
so she needs to find a man who can lead her that way. Half demanding,
half gentle... I might have a man in mind for her, but she needs
to deal with Mark and John first, so she can be ready. As to the
pampering, some women never learn how to be pampered!
...Your letter was wonderful...
Best,
Gwen
August 6, 2002
Dear Gwen:
I just finished reading your book PRESCRIBED DANGER. I picked the book up
at Borders on Saturday, August 3. After my dinner was prepared I opted for
my favorite chair and a dish of my peach cobbler and started reading the
book.
I was in my own private world and meeting such nice friends, such as Rhea-Rhea,
Mark and Marisa. This session began at seven o'clock and continued well
into the night. It was hard to put the book down. As the first bit of morning
light filtered into my room, I was still engrossed in the book, and the
plot thickened. Against my will, I put the book down, gave up the idea of
going to church and went right to sleep. As soon as I awakened, back to
the book. Forget about fixing breakfast for my husband as he could fend
for himself. I had a mission going on; my new friends were awaiting to fill
me in on more excitement and mystery. I took time out to call my friend,
Brooke Rogers, who lives in Rock Hill and had recommended reading your books.
I called Brooke to thank her for suggesting the books by her favorite author,
Gwen Hunter. Brooke calls me Grandma. She was happy that I liked your book,
and suggested that I read DELAYED DIAGNOSIS. I decided to use the order
form in the back of the book and purchase my next reading thriller. I like
your writing style very much and realize you are a gifted person. Your words
are graphic and easy to envision.
Keep up the good writing.
Sincerely,
Myrta - Florissant, MO.
Dear Myrta,
What a lovely letter! However, I am sorry you missed church and your husband
went hungry!
I am delighted that you like Rhea! She has almost as much moxie as our
friend Brooke!
I am sending you a signed book plate for your copy of PRESCRIBED DANGER.
I hope you continue to be a fan of my favorite character in the world!
Dr. Rhea-Rhea!
Now I must go find some peach cobbler!
Best,
Gwen

Just finished PRESCRIBED DANGER. I enjoyed reading
about Rhea and am looking forward to the next in the series..... Rhea
is a great friend to the people around her and a good doctor for her patients.
It is a nice touch that her fingers tingle around clues.
Thanks for a great read.
Pam - Blue Springs, MS.
Hi Pam,
I am glad you liked Rhea. She is my favorite character ever -- well at
least among those that came out of my head! I too like it that Rhea
has tingly fingers, though they may fail her in book three -- DEADLY REMEDY,
out in February '03!!!
Your book plate is on the way!

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that I met your PR person in Brunswick, GA.
He told me about [your] books. He made a deal with me that if I didn't like
[your] books that he would give me my money back. Well tell him he
can keep his money because I love them. Can't wait until the next one comes
out. Please tell him thank you for me.
Tammy - St. Marys, GA.
Dear Tammy!
Great to know you liked Rhea-Rhea! .... May I have your permission to
get my PR guy to post your letter on the website? It is LOVELY!

Hello,
....I came to your book signing in Goldsboro. I purchased PRESCRIBED DANGER
and DELAYED DIAGNOSIS and have just finished reading them both. I
enjoyed both books but I made the mistake of reading PRESCRIBED DANGER first
(it hinted that.....was the cause of Marisa's medical problems---I should
have read DELAYED DIAGNOSIS first) Having said that, I still had a doubt
who the villain was in DELAYED DIAGNOSIS until.....!!
Thank you for the introduction to these books. I will watch for more in
this series.
Mike - Goldsboro, NC.
Hi Mike,
.....I am so glad you liked the books! Even in reverse order!.....You're
on track now. Watch for book three in the series -- DEADLY REMEDY
-- which will be out in February 2003!....

Gwen,
I was at Waldenbooks about a month ago...searching for my latest book.
A very nice man approached me and asked if I had ever read one of your
books and handed me a bookmark....hmmm...that was different...well, I
picked up DELAYED DIAGNOSIS
and went home to read. ( As I was paying for the book the sales woman
told me it was your husband! She also told me I would love the book.)
I finished it that night.! Great book!
I just finished PRESCRIBED DANGER....I really like your characters and
love all the medical terms! ( and tell your editor....there are a lot
of us out here in reader land who LOVE all that technical stuff!)
You are the first author I have ever written to. I read about 5 books
a week.... I am really hooked on reading! For Christmas this past year...my
husband gave me the entire series from J.D. Robb about Eve Dallas. I love
to read one after another to follow the story line. I have now added the
first two "Rhea Rhea" books to my collection....and be assured
I will seek out your other books too.....
Keep writing...I'll keep reading. You have a lot of talent....
With great respect and affection,
Roxie - Rock Hill, SC.
PS ...I understand you like Diana Gabaldon too!
I have her last book and have hidden it away till I have a week where
I can read non stop...I can't put them down once I start. ....My daughter...actually
cooked dinner...so I could finish your book....she wants to read it next!
Roxie,
Thank you so much for writing to me! I'm flattered to be your first!....I
am so glad you like my work. It is especially gratifying when a home town
reader takes the time to write!
I am going to be at the new BOOKS-A-MILLION in Rock Hill on Friday, July
12, 3pm to 6pm, signing books as part of the grand opening. You are welcome
to bring your books by and I would be glad to sign them.
It would be nice to meet you visit a bit.
I'm with you on Diana Gabaldon! I read the last one nonstop for about
4 days. WONDERFUL book!
Hope to see you in person soon!

Dear Ms Hunter,
I have just finished reading your novel FALSE TRUTHS and thought it brilliant.
I was disappointed to note however that I had read this novel before the
preceding STOLEN CHILDREN. I am now beginning LAW OF THE WILD, which will
no doubt be as page-turning as FALSE TRUTHS.
Would it be possible to let me have a list of the books you have written
and the order in which they should be read? I would be very much appreciative.
Most of the time I read a book and think "I won't read another book
written by that author" and it's been a long time since I thought,
"I must get more books written by that author".
Brilliant reading.
Regards,
ulie - Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
… I would just like to say that I have now finished
LAW OF THE WILD. BRILLIANT!
Good luck for the future and please keep up the good work. You're
one of the best authors I have ever read.
Regards,
Julie
Dear Julie,
Thank you so much for your kind words! Writers spend so much time
in a vacuum -- buried in our own minds -- that we need a bit of grounding,
as when a fan likes our imaginary worlds!
My books -- in proper reading order -- are:
STOLEN CHILDREN (BETRAYAL in USA)
FALSE TRUTHS
LAW OF THE WILD
ASHES TO ASHES
DELAYED DIAGNOSIS
PRESCRIBED DANGER
DEADLY REMEDY (coming Feb. 2003)
Thank you for asking!
Gwen
July 6, 2002
Dear Ms Hunter,
I have just completed your book DELAYED
DIAGNOSIS and I must tell you it brought
tears to my eyes at the end. I am a huge fan of mystery novels, especially
when they revolve around the medical field. I literally could not put
your book down and couldn't wait to get home from work
to finish reading it. I usually take a good month to get through a book
because I get so relaxed I fall asleep. This was not the case with your
book. It has been a long time since I stayed up past my "bedtime"
that engrossed in a book. I look forward to reading the rest of your books
and just purchased PRESCRIBED DANGER.
I too live in Rock Hill and heard about you through a friend. I work for
a dentist and at times I feel like a frustrated nurse so I really enjoyed
your in-depth medical references. I can tell you spend a great deal of
time researching your subjects. Please keep up the great work and thank
you for your talent.
Sincerely,
Joanna - Rock Hill, SC.
Hi Joanna,
Thank you for the nice letter. It is extra special to be appreciated by
home town folks.
I will gladly send you a bookplate for PRESCRIBED DANGER, but did you
know that I will be at the new BOOKS-A-MILLION in Rock Hill (Friday, July
12, 3pm to 6pm) as part of the Grand Opening festivities? You are welcome
to bring your books by and I will sign them personally.
It will be nice to meet you.
If you can't come, let me know, I'll send you a signed bookplate.
I hope you enjoy PRESCRIBED DANGER!
Thanks again for writing,
Gwen

I have just read DELAYED DIAGNOSIS. I am
so pleased that someone is writing a truly suspenseful novel that is clean
and addicting. I could hardly put the book down. I have already
started PRESCRIBED DANGER. Look out Dr. Kay Scarpetta!
Keep up the good work. I will be waiting for the third book.
Shelle
Hi Shelle,
....Thank you so much for your letter! It is nice when someone notices
the lack of gratuitous sex and language....
The third in the series, DEADLY REMEDY, will be released Feb. 2003.
Thanks again for writing!
Gwen
June 22, 2002
Hi. I have just recently stumbled upon your book PRESCRIBED
DANGER and I am now hooked on your writing. I have already ordered
DELAYED DIAGNOSIS. I am so glad I found your books. Your style is
easy to understand, yet is full of medical terms and procedures, making
the story all the more real....
....Your writing of dialect for Miss Essie and Arlana is spectacular.
I can almost hear them talking as I read....
Anyway, I noticed on your website that you have a bookplate for PRESCRIBED
DANGER that you will send out. That would be great.....
Please keep writing the Dr. Lynch series books. They are fabulous. You
are right up there with my other favorites Michael Palmer and Robin Cook.
Ann - Morgantown, WV.
Dear Ann,
I just signed a book plate for you. Thank you so much for writing!
As to the easy read, I have to give credit to my Mom, to my husband, and
especially to my editor. They help me see where I need to tone down the
medical jargon and where I need more explanation. Rhea Lynch ... was real
right away, .... She is so strong and so careful of friendships. My alter
ego, as evidenced by the fact that she is tall -- and runs 5 miles a day!
Writers REALLY do spend an inordinate amount of time just sitting and
staring at a computer screen. Hence the term "writers butt"....
It is fans like you that will make a Rhea a continuing character!
Thanks so much for writing!
Gwen
June 18, 2002
Gwen,
I just finished reading PRESCRIBED DANGER, and like DELAYED DIAGNOSIS,
I was unable to put it down. Great books, and I certainly look forward
to another Dr. Rhea book to come out. Any idea on when that might be?
I met you at the Barnes and Noble on Harbison Blvd. in Columbia, SC; you
have definitely gained a new fan!
Joy
Hi Joy,
....I'm so glad you like the Rhea-Rhea books! And to have a new fan! DEADLY
REMEDY, third in the series, will be released Feb. 2003. Send me your
mailing address and I'll send you a little "teaser" from it.
Thanks for writing!
Gwen
June 13, 2002
Dear Ms. Hunter:
.... I have just finished reading your book PRESCRIBED DANGER. I
must say that this novel is one of the best-written books I have ever
read.
I have been reading since I was in the fourth grade. I read to the
point of one novel every other day so I have read thousands of book and
novels. I have even test read for book companies. Never have
I enjoyed a book as much as this one.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I hope you
will continue to write these precious novels. You do have a God
given talent for writing that is rare.
With many thanks,
Cynthia - Tifton, GA..
Dear Cynthia!
Wow! Thank you so much for writing. When readers write to
tell me they liked Rhea and her life, it is such a pleasure! Thank
you for taking the time to let me know! DEADLY REMEDY, next in the
series, will be out in Feb. 2003 and will pick up in Rhea's life in the
summer, a few months down the road.
Thanks again!
Gwen
June 7, 2002
Hi Gwen!
I met you at your appearance at Walden Books, Crabtree Valley Mall, Raleigh.
You told me that you wanted to read authors who would help you to become
"a better writer," and I gave you the names of my favorite serial
character authors. I have to rethink that now. I think I should
send them YOUR name, because Gwen, you are one of the most talented authors
around! After reading just 1.5 pages of the prologue to DELAYED DIAGNOSIS,
I knew that I had found a new gem.
I love the way you let your own sense of humor shine through the prose.
Like Dr. Rhea Lynch, I cleaned my own bathroom not more than 9 months ago,
yet I still have the "black and fuzzy pink" growths. Oh,
well. That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger! Not many writers
can handle character dialects very well, but when I read Miss Essie's dialogue
I can see and hear her in my mind.
The way you take care of technical explanations is especially good.
Just let the character say the initials or shortcut phrases as they would
in real life, and in the next sentence or paragraph, give a simple explanation
of the terms. You never break the narrative.
You are so talented, you've invented a wonderful protagonist, and you are
definitely on my 'keeper' list of authors whose every book I will buy.
You have your own unique voice, and it's a really good one!
....I just finished [PRESCRIBED DANGER], and I want more, more, more.
One of the things I love most about Rhea is how she has complete confidence
in dealing with obvious cases of TSS (Testosterone Surplus Syndrome). ...
...Anyway, keep up the good work. I've been telling all the local
book stores how great your books are. Your publisher needs to get
you on the featured front and endcap displays.
Your new, loyal reader,
Sue - Raleigh, NC.
Hi Sue!
You just made my day! I'm flattered!
I have no idea where the 'black and pink fuzzy stuff' came from in my
book ... well ... except that I have well water and without the chlorine
they put in city water, mold grows real fast....
I'm glad you liked Miss Essie's dialect. I had a nurse when I was
child and my mother was recovering from an accident. Mosetta was
a black woman, full of the Spirit and full of wisdom I knew my moma didn't
have. She talked like this when she was being wise. Talked less
in dialect when she was discussing other things. I guess I made
Miss Essie like Mosetta, except older and skinnier. I loved Mosetta
Thank you for your comment about technical explanations. I tend
to be REALLY technical in the first draft, then drop back a bit in the
second draft. Then my editor gets it! And I tone it down to nontechnical
lingo. If you don't mind I'll pass along the praise to Miranda as
she works very hard to keep me from boring the hide off readers with medical
terms! She would be tickled to hear the praise! I have been
blessed with an editor who seems to understand the character.
Thank you again for the nice letter...
Gwen
June 6, 2002
I just purchased and read PRESCRIBED DANGER.
Not having read the first book in the series, would you please tell me
who is the father of Marisa's baby(ies)?
Thank you,
Peggy - Hattiesburg, MS.
Hi Peggy!
I am glad you liked the series enough to write and ask! The father
of Marisa's offspring is Dr. Stephen Braswell, from book one. I
hope you get DELAYED DIAGNOSIS and read all about Marisa and how her story
changed Rhea's story!.....
Enjoy!
Gwen
June 4, 2002
Dear Ms. Hunter,
I was privileged to get to read your newest books about Dr. Rhea Lynch recently.
I wanted to commend you for the absence of sexual content in these books.
As a Christian young woman who believes that abstinence is the best policy
before marriage, it was a refreshing change to be able to read a popular,
current book on the secular market and not encounter a scene that would
make me uncomfortable. Please know that I enjoyed reading the books,
even though medical mysteries are not usually my favorite genre, and look
forward to the next books in the series.
Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Susanah - Portersville, PA.
Hi Susanah,
Thank you for the kind letter about the Rhea Lynch books. I too
find I have to skip over sexual parts of books -- because I am a Christian
and because I'm married to a wonderful man.
I suppose that you noticed that Rhea is not a Christian, but is surrounded
by Christian influences. I wanted her to be affected by the presence
of God in her life but still be a secular character....
This continues throughout the series, especially in book three, DEADLY
REMEDY due out in February 2003.
While I don't promise never to put a simi-sexual scene with Rhea in the
books I do promise that it will be a "fade-to-black" scene.
All the so-called action to be in the imagination of the reader.
Thank you so much for your comments........
Gwen

Dear Ms. Hunter:
I just read PRESCRIBED DANGER and I absolutely loved it. I will read your
other books. You have created very real characters that act as real people
act. Your plot line was very exciting and kept me anxious to the very end.
I am just curious about the Dawkins name. It is my Mother's maiden name
and we are all very proud of the Dawkins name. My grandfather didn't have
any sons to carry on his name, and he had no brothers but he did have a
cousin who had sons to carry on this name. In fact, one of those sons is
Peter Dawkins, the Heismann trophy winner back in 1958. Thank you for using
our proud name and and I will make sure all my sisters read your books,
as most of them are mystery fans, too.
Thank you again for an exciting read and I look forward to reading your
other books and any subsequent books you write.
Peggy - Antelope, CA.
PS. The Dawkins family I am related to is from Michigan,
but my great aunt did a family tree tracing the family back to it's origins
in Virginia when it was a colony, and back to England before that.
Hi Peggy,
I am glad you liked both Dr. Rhea and the fictional county where she lives.
Dawkins County is based on [the county] where I work, and Ford County
is based on [the county] where I live. The names Dawkins and Ford just
came to me. I love the names. As you mentioned, they are very English,
as are Chester and Ford. I was looking for names that kept to the feeling
and sound of the real places. The counties are filled with lots of English,
Scots-Irish and German folk, with dialects that you can trace back to
old Britain.
I hope you enjoy my other books as well.
Thanks for writing!
Gwen

Hello Gwen,
I just read both your Dr. Rhea -Rhea books and loved them. I am British
so I had a chuckle with your Dr. Shirley Atkins character. I loved
the books so much. Being in the medical profession myself, I am a
MRI technologist I love to read medical thrillers and yours was very accurate.
You must work very hard to get everything right.
I look forward to reading your new book, ASHES TO ASHES, though I really,
really cannot wait for your new Dr. Rhea book when will that be?
My address is as follows I would like a signed bookslip please:
Rachael - Waterbury, CT.
Dear Rachael,
Thank you so much for your kind words. As an American writing about
a British character -- and fearful of miss-speaking her phrases or accent
-- I was very happy that you liked Shirl! Actually, my editor liked
Shirl so much that she asked me to write a scene with Shirl for DEADLY
REMEDY, book three of the Rhea Lynch, MD series. I had finished
the book without Shirl -- who was not to reappear until book four.
Shirl seems a special lady -- very feisty!
I do indeed do a great deal of research for Rhea, and am always asking
questions of the doctors and nurses and radiology and respiratory techs
where I work. It is very rewarding to know that people, like you,
in the medical profession approve of my writing!
Thanks again.
A signed book plate is on the way soon.
Gwen
Gwen,
Thank you for the personalized note and autograph sticker. It's nice to
communicate directly with an author. That's the first time I've received
a response!.....
Thanks again.

Gwen,
I just finished reading PRESCRIBED DANGER. What a fabulous book!
I laughed out loud and stayed up much too late! I too have fallen
in love with Dr. Rhea-Rhea Lynch and her wonderful family and friends!
I truly enjoyed reading both DELAYED DIAGNOSIS and PRESCRIBED DANGER.
I do read other types of books, but medical based are my favorite and you
are my new favorite medical author!
Please forward a bookplate to me at....
Shawnee, Kansas
I only am disappointed that I have to wait until March 2003 for the next
book!
Thank you so much!
Debra
Hi Debra
Thank you so much for kind letters and your love of Rhea-Rhea. I am flattered
to be your new favorite medical author!
When I finished DELAYED DIAGNOSIS ..., I insisted that my agent sell her
as a series. ....
Fans like you make my day! It seems people everywhere love Dr. Rhea!
I have a signed bookplate and scrub shirt ready to go out in tomorrow's
mail.
Thanks for writing!

Just finished your latest book and loved it. I
love women who are smart, and won't take anything from anybody.
Do you have any medical training? You really talk like a doctor or maybe
a nurse.
This is my first time reading you and I am really glad I did.
Sandy
Hi Sandy,
I am glad you liked PRESCRIBED DANGER and Rhea. She is tough! I
had written a number of books before I discovered a character that I could
live with for a long time.....I do have 26 years experience in the medical
laboratory field, much of it in a small rural hospital like the one where
Rhea works.....
Thank you for writing!

Hi,
I was at the beach for a few days and bought a book to read. I love
medical thrillers, so I chose your latest out of the blue. When I
got back to the house and saw that it was by an author from Rock Hill, I
could not believe it. I grew up there and still have friends there.
I lost a night's sleep keeping up with Rhea (and of course, it is pronounced
"Ray"), but it was worth it. I am a semi-retired Biology
teacher and the "wet germs" descriptions were awesome.
Thanks for a wonderful read and I now have books to look forward to, in
reading your others.
Keep up the good work.
Anne
Dear Anne,
A former Rock Hillian! Very Cool! We may have some mutual
friends.
I am glad you liked Rhea... I had written a number of books before
I discovered a character
that I could live with for a long time. ....
I am especially glad that you, being a Biology teacher, liked the wet
germs comment. I got a quite a laugh when the character came out
with that one too!
Thank you so much for writing!

Hello!
I am an RN in Charlotte, NC. .... and an avid reader. I was excited to find
PRESCRIBED DANGER at Barnes & Nobles as I enjoyed DELAYED DIAGNOSIS.
I'm planning to hunt down all your other novels and I am looking forward
to the next Dr. Rhea installment.
...
I forgot to say I love the chapter titles - there's no way a person can
see the next one is called "Storms, Pokemon and Torture" and not
read on.
Diane - Charlotte, NC.
Hi, Diane!
.... I am especially glad when medical professionals like yourself write
to tell me that they have enjoyed one of my books!....

April 12, 2002
Dear Gwen,
I just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed reading your books.
I read PRESCRIBED DANGER first not knowing about DELAYED DIAGNOSIS.
I enjoyed them the same as if I had read them in order. I have worked
in an ER for 9 years so I can relate to Dr. Rhea's lifestyle. She
has so much character and charisma that it makes me down right jealous.
I am so happy to see you, as a southern belle, doing so well in the writing
industry. Please keep many more of Dr. Rhea's stories coming for
the reading hungry people like me.

Hi Karen,
I am so glad you liked PRESCRIBED DANGER and Rhea, especially as you are
a medical professional...I am tickled that you could read DELAYED DIAGNOSIS
after Prescribed Danger and still enjoy them both. That was a particular
worry of mine!....
Best!

Dear Gwen,
Please excuse my informality, but Rhea just seems to invite it.
What a great character! Actually, I'd never heard of you until I
was over in Woodstock, Canada yesterday, and saw PRESCRIBED DANGER there.
When I saw your website listed, I had to check it out. I'm sure
you've heard this before, but once I started the book, I couldn't put
it down. I'm glad I found it on a Saturday.
It is great news that there may be 6 more books. There are just
too few good authors anymore, and I've noticed that a lot of new books
are old books that are being re-released. I find that very frustrating.
Anyway, thank you for the wonderful read, and I'm looking forward
to reading your books. Considering the fact that I, too, live
in a small town, there are times when you just have to be really pleased
there is an amazon.com.
Say, are you going to need money for shipping and handling on the bookplate?
And do you have a newsletter?
Kathleen - Houlton, ME.
Hi Kathleen,
I am so glad you liked PRESCRIBED DANGER and Rhea...As for not being able
to put the book down, I can’t hear that enough!!
The first book in the series is DELAYED DIAGNOSIS and it is indeed available
on Amazon.com, eHarlequin.com, and many others. ….
There is no charge for postage on the bookplate and it is my pleasure
to send one to you.
I do not have a newsletter but I do try to post news and notes regularly
on my website.
And thank you for the very flattering letter!

Dear Ms. Hunter,
I've just finished reading PRESCRIBED DANGER. I really loved it. As it was
the first book of yours that I've read, you can be sure that I'm going out
and get the others. You told an excellent [story] and did not depend on
sexual scenes to do it.
Although I have nothing against sexual books, too many writers don't tell
a good story to go with them.
I am looking forward to your new book.
....Just remember the imagination is a gift the author
gives to the reader in my opinion and you let me use mine. Thank you,
Sincerely, Joan
Hi Joan,
...thank you so much for your comments.... My editor tells me that eventually
my character will have to have sex, but when that day comes -- the door
will close and the chapter will fade to black!....
Best,
Gwen

Dear Miss Hunter,
I just want to tell you how much I love the Rhea-Rhea series. I
work for B.Dalton Booksellers, and last year I got an advanced copy of
DELAYED DIAGNOSIS, and I loved it. I could barely wait for the year
to go by, so that I could read PRESCRIBED DANGER. I would often
check our warehouse to see if it was in stock. As soon as the book
was in stock I ordered 15 copies for my store. As soon as we received
it I bought it. And now that I am finished, I can't wait for the
next one. I loved it. Oh yeah, I like Mark as the man in her
life. But how ever you write it I am sure I will love it. Thanks
for writing such great books.
A big fan,
Emma - Arlington, Va.
Hi Emma,
I am glad you liked Rhea-Rhea. She is my favorite character!....
I like Mark as the man in her life too, but it can't be too easy. He can't
fall at her feet -- it has to be difficult for them to get together for
Rhea to really appreciate him. And he has to prove himself as a man of
honor first! Also, I want Rhea to deal with the fact that she left
John.... That one should be fun to write!
I am honored that you would put PRESCRIBED DANGER in your store!....
Thank you for your help and for liking Rhea!

Dear Gwen,
BRAVO!
I just finished your book, DELAYED DIAGNOSIS, and I decided it was worth
the effort of looking you up to tell you how much I enjoyed it.
(This is the first time I've ever written an author.) My husband
is an Orthopedic Surgeon, and I am a Radiology Administrator. I
LOVE true crime, murder mysteries, among many other types of books.
I am an incessant reader. I read on average a book per week.
. . . . . Usually authors do very limited or poor research and err frequently
when speaking of medical treatment and diagnosis. I overlook these
errors in the interest of enjoying the storyline of the books, but even
Robin Cook, as an ophthalmologist, makes some glaring mistakes.
You did a very fine job! You even understand the efficacy of CT
without contrast in suspected bleed or clot, and explained it very well.
You mention TPA! You paid attention to detail and researched your
subject well. HUGE thumbs up for your book. It kept me guessing
and turning pages for an entire day. I started it this morning and
finished it just now! It was the first of your books I have read,
but it won't be the last.
Kindest Regards,
Michelle - Fort Walton Beach, Florida
PS. Gwen, I forgot to tell you that I completely fell in love with
your characters! Rhea Rhea is a character with many facets, and
many possibilities for further development and depth of character in future
books. I hope you include her character, as well as those surrounding
her in upcoming books! Very nice to find an intelligent, athletic
female character who is realistic (sometimes a mess), rather than your
typical superwoman/gourmet cook/ immaculate housekeeper!
Michelle
Dear Michelle,
Thank you for your very kind letter! I worked hard to get everything
medically right in DELAYED DIAGNOSIS, and interviewed many people, including
the radiologist at the small hospital where I work. One of the problems
with writing medical based novels, is that the field changes so fast!
For instance, TPA has now been replaced by retavase, a gene altered version
of TPA. Book two, PRESCRIBED DANGER, comes out in April and Rhea
is still using TPA! Arrggg! . . . . . Yes, Rhea
and several of the other characters are back in Prescribed Danger . .
. .
. . . . I hope you don't mind the chatty letter. We are snowed in here
in South Carolina and I already have cabin fever! Time for a half
hour of yoga and then perhaps curl up with a good book!
Thanks again!
Gwen
